WALK FOR WATER
How it all started
HOW IT ALL BEGAN
Walk for Water was started in 2013 by Jennifer Stuckenschneider. While researching for a school project, she saw a video showing about the water crisis in the world. She learned that children around the world are dying from drinking dirty water. The first year, she raised money for her sponsored child in Kenya to have water pumped to her house with an art sale called Water for Rose. A letter from Rose’s family said that the water helped them to not have to go looking for water, but their family can now have a kitchen garden, in addition it helped others in their community.
With the help of Holy Family School and its students, the first Walk for Water was held in 2014. Starting in 2015 Walk for Water has been sponsored by Mesa Catholic and was held at Colorado Mesa University. So far over $10,000 has been raised. Clean water storage for 32 homes in Honduras and Latrines for 50 families have been built in Kampala, Uganda. Last year three community wells, a fan and a water filter for a school in Trichy India.
Walk for Water has three goals:
-
to help more people
-
to raise awareness
-
to empower other kids by showing that kids can make a difference
We hope to see you at the 2019 annual Walk for Water.
